The core idea behind sport-specific performance training is to improve an athlete's fitness by honing the skills specific to his or her sport. Our performance training is designed to help athletes expand their physical capabilities so that they can gain a leg up on their competition.
It includes corrective and restorative exercise, strength training, conditioning and cardiovascular training, sports specific techniques and drills, nutritional advice, mental and psychological training, and consistent accountability by a qualified trainer.
How does performance training differ from more conventional training or weight-lifting?
Sports performance is all about explosive movements, reaction, speed, and agility. Conventional training normally put more emphasis on body transformation and muscular build. Our sports enhancement program takes into account individual characteristics such as age, gender, and fitness level, combined with scientifically proven training methods and exercises to create a customized, sports specific workout plan.
For example, a volleyball player who is involved in sports performance training will want to focus on exercises that mimic patterns and movement found exclusively on the volleyball court. He or she will benefit from exercises that augment reaction, balance, and vertical leap skills.
We offer programs that are compatible with every age range.
Sports performance training can also be useful in avoiding injury. Statistics about the most prevalent injuries for a particular sport, position, gender, and age group can be used to specifically address areas that are most susceptible to injury in that sport. The strength and conditioning coach can then design effective programs for reducing the risk of athletes getting injured from non-contact related injuries.
Lastly, performance training can have an impact far beyond the field. Proper training can help youths build self-esteem and confidence, so that they will not only perform better on the athletic field, but also in the classroom and ultimately in every aspect of life. At TPC, we cherish the relationships we build with youth athletes and look forward to building the next generation.
